Digital “PCS” Phone Searching for Signal: On Sunday March 1, 2008 I made the last call I would ever make on my Nokia TDMA digital “PCS” phone. Since this phone was shut down for quite some time, it was to the 611 information number - but alas a robotic AT&T operator answered and told me that she did not recognize my phone as a subscriber on the network. This phone was revolutionary at the time it was released on the original AT&T Wireless network as a first ever “nationwide” phone with calls that had no long distance fees associated, nor were there roaming fees when you traveled to other markets. Today, March 7th, the phone no longer finds its network… Alas, the last of the original analog networks that were upgraded to digital are now shut down. What will AT&T and Verizon do with this old spectrum?
